The Challenge
Northern BC has numerous jobs and business opportunities, but many immigrants to Canada have settled in the south. IEC-BC is working with employers and Northern communities to examine ways to more effectively recruit and hire immigrants to fill local jobs.
The Solution
An innovative approach to hiring immigrants is to assess them on their competencies.
With the Kitimat Chamber of Commerce, Ingenia designed and delivered workshops in seven northern BC communities. These workshops informed employers about using a competency-based approach to hiring immigrants. We also designed an on-line video version of the workshop.
The Result
Increased interest from employers in hiring immigrants.
